If you want to use the Compare feature, that's on the Review tab. This allows you to visually compare two documents side by side. And of course you must have two documents open. This will allow you to easily copy and paste text and images from one document or window to another. Make sure what you have enabled is View Window View Side by Side and not the new Side to Side option: Make sure that Vertical is enabled. If you followed the instructions outlined above you should now have your two documents presented on the left half and right half of your screen, as shown in the image below.
